Having a little extra pocket of time, I decided to take a short trip up from where I was staying in Kuala Lumpur (KL) to visit a nearby nature preserve called Kanching Waterfalls - about 30 minutes of a car ride. Hopping onto a Grab car (similar to Uber) was the most convenient way to travel around KL if there is no intention to drive or rent a car. A friend described the place having lots of “broccoli trees”. Initially, I was skeptical about that description but I could sort of see why along the ride.
It was a wonderful way to get away from the hustle of busy city vibes, settle down amongst lush nature. Kanching Waterfalls supposedly boasts up to 7 waterfalls that could possibly be visited although I’ve only made it up to the third waterfall as I spent way too much time loafing around the first few to dip my feet into!
The forest was certainly alive in the morning, crossing paths with a pack of macaques spending their morning socializing, playing and dipping in the shallow pools of the river water. They were particularly used to humans, not flinching as I squeezed past a grooming pack to walk deeper into the forest trail.
Other god-ray photos taken during the hike that is also super sketch worthy! There is just something wonderful about light filtering through the canopy of trees ❤️:
The sun eventually grew hot and the rumbling of my tummy indicated that lunch time was coming around the corner and that it was time to go! I would have loved to continue basking and dipping around the cool river water longer. It was a good reminder that bringing a snack or two would have helped to extend this trip a little longer.
Ending off with a sketch of one of the several waterfalls visited during this relaxing hike. On hindsight, I would have to say it was relatively difficult to try to differentiate the strokes between the moving water, rock edges and surrounding greenery. This would be something that I will be discussing a little more over for the paid subscribers.
